Harry Cloud and Paul Roessler (Gitane Demone Quartet, The Screamers) have collaborated on a new 2-record set specifically written and recorded for artist Tanja London’s sol(e)menace-sculpture audio tour “Ancestral Stress and Trauma” (a part of Jason Watson’s Permadeath residency at Utah Museum of Modern Art). It’s an avant-garde collection of creative, hypnotic and sometimes chaotic instrumental pieces that piques your imaginative faculty from beginning to end. It’s like a whole band made up of #1-Primus-fan creepy uncles all trying to out-weird each other. A lot of atonal guitar riffage and inane lyrics seemingly made up on the spot. Dermatillomania is an obsessive disorder characterized by picking at one’s own skin. Google that shit and it will give you nightmares. It also happens to be the title of the first track on this album from Harry Cloud. Also, irony of ironies, it is what listening to this record on repeat, trying to figure out how to characterize it, makes me feel. I want to pick at my fucking skin. It doesn’t make any sense to me. In 'I'm Going There' Fannyland walks and sings on top of the green mountain dressed in a kilt. Mindless the Fannyland crew says things that I don't understand. But images of the fanny members rolling down the hill on a mudslide appear for no apparent reason. What is this music, who are these people and why are there no bagpipes involved over here?
