I’ve heard of Acid Mothers Temple, of course, but never actually listened to them before this 7” arrived at my door. Cool stuff: much more trippy and Krautrock-y/less heavy than I had imagined. Orphan Goggles are out of their minds, playing unhinged heavy psychedelia that wouldn’t sound out of place at a lysergic Gibby Haynes BBQ. Solid, fun, and weird stuff all around. (orphangoggles.bandcamp.com)–Michael T. Fournier...

Hypostatic Info

From Planet Orb With Love Part 1 / Hey Bud, How's Your Blood? 7" single on White Worm Records, 2019. Red vinyl edition of 200. Here's a nice weird little split, Orphan Goggles blasting a whacked out noise rock jam. Channeling some 90's pig fuck sounds. Arty and mentally deranged at the same time. Acid Mothers 5 minute track is short for Kawabata and crew but it flows along the space time continuum quite nicely. With the vocals and it's structure, From Planet Orb almost veers into standard rock territory. Just when it's hitting a long mesmerizing groove, it cuts......

Next is a split 7-inch single between Orphan Goggles and Acid Mothers Temple and The Melting Paraiso U.F.O. The A-side, "From Planet Orb With Love part.1," is pretty well head-melting. It starts out pretty noisy, and then turns into this crazy droning bit of symphonic psychedelia, with piercing synth lines winding their way through the song. Acid Mothers Temple and The Melting Paraiso U.F.O. is, per the band's website, a "freak-out group for the 21st century founded in 1995 by members of the Acid Mothers Temple soul-collective." Led by Kawabata Makoto, this cut feels like it cuts out just as......

A split between Acid Mothers Temple and The Melting Paraiso UFO (that's the full band name so we'll let you imagine what the song sounds like), and the LA-based neurotic noise rock band Orphan Goggles is coming out sometime in May. That Orphan Goggles side, "Hey Bart, How's Your Stool?" is frantic fun. Vocals bounce from sneer to gasp-shrieking like The Cramps, and the guitars remind us of when rad bands that loved Fugazi would be crammed into a coffee shop, playing so hard their fingers would get cut and blood would spatter all over the guitar. We'd never heard......

Peek-A-Boo Magazine

Orphan Goggles goes for a take-no-prisoners approach on the high-energy, high-paranoia of "Minus Grin". Featuring many jagged edges, incredible speed, and infused with just the right of threat, everything about it has a wild feral spirit to it. Volume must be blasted over the course of the EP for there is no other way. By picking such an acid fried vision to pursue the songs have an unexpected surprising quality to them. A little bit of playfulness comes into the fray further adding to the weird freak-flag flying sort of temperament the ties the whole of the collection together. Rushing......

Orphan Goggles / Acid Mothers Temple & The Melting Paraiso U.F.O, “Hey Bud, How’s Your Blood?” b/w “From Planet Orb with Love Part 1” (Whiteworm) Orphan Goggles are from Los Angeles, and based totally on their side of this split 7-inch, they specialize in a strain of noise rock with theatrical vocals; overall, it had me thinking of stuff I recall digging on labels like Skin Graft, Troubleman Unlimited, and Ipecac, and that’s cool. Orphan Goggles share this record with a spacy Japanese psych unit of unexpected longevity; their track, which features a hard quick fadeout (the better to fit onto......

Orphan Goggles, the EPs of OG, Harry Cloud Music

Razorcake

It’s like a whole band made up of #1-Primus-fan creepy uncles all trying to out-weird each other. A lot of atonal guitar riffage and inane lyrics seemingly made up on the spot. Awkward comedy-rock vocals. I don’t know; one side of this is called “Anal Dentata, Part 4,” and there’s a song about a dude hiding in the bushes with his dick in his hand. I don’t want to emphasize too strongly how wacky this is because that’s clearly what the makers of this intended in sending this out for review, and I don’t like being played. But the strangest......

Concert Addicts

Last night, Vancouver got an annual dose of psychedelia courtesy of Acid Mothers Temple. The performance landed deep on the psychedelic end of the musical spectrum. The evening was arranged by Timbre Concerts who put on a great many psychedelic shows including the particularly trippy Levitation Vancouver festival. AMT are a long standing Japanese based-out act that range from extenuated heavy rock riffing to drifting space experiments. The evening performance served well to further the band's magical reputation. Playing support for the evening were Orphan Goggles, a savage and thrilling four piece from Los Angeles. As AMT shows usually include......
